Ma Siss's Place
Ma Siss's Place is a non-profit ministry that was founded in the late
1990's whose goal is to help elderly, shut-ins, and low-income families.
It began as a group of women met in the living room of Mrs. Wilkerson's
home once a week and they would discuss the everyday issues that low-income
households face. Among the issues discussed, the most common one that
was inflicting the majority was that after they paid their rent there
wasn't much left over for food and clothing. So, Mrs. Wilkerson, better
known as Ma Siss, decided to open a food pantry and clothing closet in
her basement. Before long the need was so great that Ma Siss's basement
was not large enough to hold the food and clothing, so she used her savings
and bought an old abandoned car garage that became the location for Ma
Siss's Place. Mrs. Wilkerson envisioned a place for all people; no matter
how big or small the need, to come and she'd give a helping hand in whatever
way she could.
In the mid to late 2001, Ma Siss's, with the help of family members and
the community, has been here through the hardships endured and the better
days that have come never losing the faith. By the grace of God we have
reached out to the community and provided for many physical needs. Ma
